James Prendergast
Managing Director
James Prendergast is a senior executive with exceptional experience developing teams and innovative systems to manage businesses, and implementing continuous cost improvements to optimize bottom line results. He also has extensive experience with merger and acquisitions as well as integrating the operations into existing businesses.
As an executive with Tyco Plastics from 1988 to 2003, Mr. Prendergast most recently served as the President of Global/North America for Tyco Plastics, a subsidiary of Tyco International Ltd. with responsibility for the $1 billion North American and UK operations. He also has significant experience in mergers and acquisitions, leading the acquisition of several US and European businesses for Tyco and integrating several major acquisitions into the North America operation, including a major manufacturing relocation. Leading the Global/North America operations, he consolidated the manufacturing footprint, reducing facilities by 17%, and decreasing the total product costs including distribution, overhead and S,G&A. He centralized ordering and control and nationalized operational processes, utilizing best practices, reducing costs by up to 35% and reducing raw material inventories by 30%. In addition, he restructured the sales organization, significantly reducing selling expense while maintaining customer satisfaction.
From 1998-2001, Mr. Prendergast served as the Vice President of Operations and General Manager for Tyco Plastics, where he managed the $300MM Central Region of the Plastics Group. During his tenure, he acquired and fully integrated two new divisions to the region, increasing region sales by 35%. He mentored Plant Managers including both Production Managers and Operations Managers, helping to enhance their skills and effectiveness in Human Resources, Finance, and Operations and resulting in cost reductions up to 40% and increasing income at a time when other regions were struggling. He created systems for monitoring operations, returns, margins by item and corrective action systems, which allowed for setting metrics and significantly improving efficiency and reducing costs. He also analyzed excessive workers compensation costs that, previously, had not been addressed and created innovative procedures which this expense by 35%.
While at Tyco from 1988 to 1998, Mr. Prendergast was the President/General Manager of Accurate Forming, a Division of Tyco International. In this role, he had $10 million P&L responsibility for the deep drawn metal stamping manufacturing division. During this assignment, he developed the strategic plan to increase margins in this labor-starved area, initiated ISO 9000 and became certified within one year. He negotiated labor contracts with Teamsters, achieving targeted cost parameters and controls. To achieve higher margins, he moved product mix to new value-added processes, set specific standards in developing quoting system, by item, insuring higher margins and more effective purchasing of raw materials including aluminum, brass, steel and stainless steel.
Prior to his work at Tyco, Mr. Prendergast served in various executive positions at Teledyne Industries, Revlon, Inc., Air Cruiser Company, Inc., and Mattel, Inc.
He earned his B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Rutgers University as a member of the Engineering Honor Society/Industrial Engineering Honor Society and his M.B.A. degree from Monmouth College.
