James Fine
Managing Director
Jim Fine served as President and CEO of Acme Auto Inc. for more than 25 years. Acme was a closely-held family business that distributed automotive replacement parts, tools and accessories through its store locations and warehouse divisions. During his tenure as President, Acme Auto grew to 22 stores and 5 distribution centers with revenues of $28 million and more than 300 employees. Acme achieved substantial growth in the consumer sector through the development and implementation of innovative marketing and advertising strategies. The company's well-positioned slogan "More Than Auto Parts Auto People"® became a well-known service mark. For his activities in the areas of marketing and advertising, Mr. Fine was selected as Automotive Advertiser of the Year. While President of Acme Auto, Mr. Fine also served as a member of the Corporate Advisory Board of Hartford National and later Shawmut Bank.
Mr. Fine has also been associated with the Jimmy Fund, the public fund raising arm of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, for more than 25 years. Having raised over $2 million for cancer care and research through events and programming, Mr. Fine continues his involvement as a Trustee of the hospital and is now personally coordinating both the annual radio auction on WTIC AM as well as a Dana Farber Evening in Connecticut sponsored by the Private Clients Group of Bank of America. Mr. Fine and his company received the Jimmy Fund's highest honor, the Yawkey Award, named after the former owners of the Boston Red Sox.
In addition, Mr. Fine has received numerous awards recognizing his contribution to the business community and excellence as an employer. These awards include the Business Leader of the Year Award from the Greater Hartford Chamber of Commerce, the Business Leadership Award from the University of Hartford, and the Pride Award from the Greater Hartford Chamber of Commerce.
He has held a leadership role in the industry serving as Chairman of the Automotive Warehouse Distributors Association, an organization whose membership includes both the leading warehouse distributors as well as manufacturers. He was the recipient of the Automotive Warehouse Distributor Memorial Scholarship Award for his service to this organization and the industry as well as the Northwood Institute Automotive Replacement Award for his commitment to education and training initiatives.
Mr. Fine's activities in non-profit organizations include serving as Chairman of the University of Hartford Associates, directing both fundraising and programming development for its membership base of privately held and public companies. The University of Hartford presented Mr. Fine with its Medal for Distinguished Service to honor his contributions. Other community activities have also included director of the Hartford Boys and Girls Club and a board member of the Greater Hartford Jewish Community Center.
Mr. Fine has been an instructor of a course in Small Business Management at the University of Hartford and a speaker at the Entrepreneur Institute. He also recently wrote an article on the sale of a family business and is currently working on a book concerning family business issues.
Mr. Fine earned his J.D. from Boston University Law School and his B.A. from Bates College. He is a member of the Connecticut Bar and is presently Of Counsel to the law firm of Levy and Droney P.C. in Farmington, Connecticut.
