Catherine D. Elkies

Cathy Elkies is a proven leader in achieving significant growth for new and existing luxury businesses. Through innovative marketing programs, client acquisition efforts, utilization of technology platforms and new market development, Ms. Elkies drives businesses to profitability and expansion. Her understanding of high net worth clients, coupled with a strong sensibility of high-end product enables her to create unique and exciting experiences for this market segment.
Ms. Elkies spent over twelve years working at the international auction house Christie's, where she most recently served as President of Christie's East. Under her stewardship, Christie's East achieved record-breaking sales and launched several newsworthy international markets including Space Memorabilia, Western Memorabilia, Maritime Art and Important Design, among others. Through this market expansion, Christie's East achieved over 25% growth in under twenty-four months and showed the greatest profit margins within the international group.
Prior to that position, Ms. Elkies served as Managing Director of Christie's Los Angeles where she launched Christie's West Coast Headquarters and established Los Angeles as a key selling center for the company. In this role, she was responsible for determining the five-year business plan, planning and executing the $5M build out, and managing the transition of a back office location into a full service auction center.
During 2000-2002, Ms. Elkies pioneered interactive television and transaction-enabled content for auction and commerce programming as an Executive Director and EVP with MetroTV, a subsidiary of Cablevision. In 2002, Ms. Elkies joined New York City's largest prop and furniture rental company, Props For Today, as President, where she directed sales growth, cost reduction and company re-alignment.
Ms. Elkies has consulted for several middle market companies seeking aggressive growth strategies. She has been engaged by Christie's to set a growth strategy for their middle market business and to assess business practices and operational flow.
Ms. Elkies earned her B.A. degree from Kenyon College. Ms. Elkies often lectures on emerging businesses, the art market, and auction industry. She has spoken at Columbia University School of Business, LACMA, American Appraisers Association, The Heritage Society of Houston and others. Additionally, she conducts charity auctions for organizations nationwide.
